Have you ever pondered how many people are actually online at any given time, or perhaps wondered how many Internet users there are in total around the globe?
Well below I’m going to provide you with some interesting facts and stats on this subject that will blow your mind!
For instance, did you know it’s now estimated that more than 40% of the worlds entire population has an Internet connection, that’s an astounding 2,901,524,825!
Or if you prefer it in words… two billion, nine hundred and one million, five hundred twenty-four thousand, eight hundred twenty-five, and that number is set to break the three billion barrier by the end of 2014.
The top three countries with the most users can account for an astronomical 39.88% of the world’s total Internet user base, with the rest of the world making up the other 60.12%.

So Who are the Big Three I hear you ask?
Now although they have the most internet users worldwide at an impressive 641,601,070 (over six hundred forty-one million) that’s just a meagre 46.03% of China’s total population.
So in essence less than half of all the people who live in China are actually connected and yet they have more users than the next three countries combined! Those being United States, India, and Japan respectively.
The United States is Next on the List
However, when it comes to the penetration percentage of the population that has Internet, Northern America is well ahead with a staggering 86.75%, Meaning that over 86% of all Americans are now connected to the net and that’s no small feat!
Number Three on the List is India
Whichever way you look at it, the above figures for all three countries are very large numbers and quite impressive.
What About Internet Speed?
Something else that of course has to be taken into consideration when looking at such stats is the average Internet speed for each of the three countries, so here they are below.
- The United States is in first position with an average speed of 27.9mbps
- China comes in second with a not to shabby average speed of 22.9mbps
- India is next on the list in third place with 5.5mbps
As you can see, once you start to go into the details and no longer just look at the total amount of users online the order of things can change quite a bit.
So Which Country has the
